Past choreographers

Compensation and timeline

  • Selected artists enjoy an artists stipend, travel reimbursement, a cast of 5-10 professional dancers, and ample rehearsal time, plus access to studio space and accommodations in the artists' apartment on the grounds of the Callanwolde estate where the company is in residence.

  • Choreographic teams are welcome to apply, although the artist stipend remains the same. In that case, please fill out only one application for the whole team, and include all relevant information.

  • Selected creators individually negotiate the start date and duration of the residency.

  • Length of work: roughly between 10-20 mins

  • Length of residency is determined based on choreographers' preference and length of proposed work. Most creators stay for 1-2 weeks.

  • Choreographer's stipend: $100 per minute of choreography. Example: 15-minute piece = $1500 plus airfare/gas reimbursement, local travel, and housing.

  • Choreographers must facilitate one 1.5-hour workshop with the advanced students of Callanwolde School of Dance and/or area professional dancers.

What we look for

  • We seek original works explicitly created for Kit Modus but will also consider a remount of an already-created work of great significance. If the latter is the case, please include a link to that full work in your samples.

  • Our team favors complex and demanding phrase work, and while we recognize the value of process/research, we are a movement-driven company presenting polished work.

  • We aim to give our artists unique career experiences they wouldn't otherwise have access to. Therefore, we lean towards commissioning creators from outside Atlanta.
